MASHOUT (Mid-Atlantic States Homebrewers CampOUT) began in 1988 with the combined efforts of Washington, DC’s BURP (Brewers United for Real Potables) and Frederick, MD’s FOAM (Frederick Original Ale Makers) homebrew clubs.
The first MASHOUT was held at the Hagan Farm (also known as the Mink Farm) in Thurmont, MD and attracted some 60 homebrewers. The event was so popular that it was repeated the next year at the same location. Subsequent MASHOUT’s have been held at Virginia Beach, VA, Fredericksburg, VA, and Flintstone (near Rocky Gap), MD. In 2014, MASHOUT moved to a new, much larger location near Oldtown, MD and Paw Paw, WV on a beautiful bluff overlooking the Potomac River. In 2017, the event moved once again – to a lovely old farm nestled in a valley just over the Pennsylvania line near Bedford (and close to the original site near Rocky Gap State Park in MD).
In 2019 MASHOUT became a completely independent organization and is now an American Homebrewers Association officially-affiliated homebrew club (Club MASHOUT). By registering for this event, you become a "member" of the club. If you would like to be involved in helping to plan and operate this and future MASHOUT's, please contact us at ClubMashout@gmail.com.
